Mission Statement

The High Atlas Foundation is a Moroccan association and a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2000 by former Peace Corps Volunteers committed to furthering sustainable development. HAF supports Moroccan communities to take action in implementing human development initiatives, and promotes organic agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth development, capacity-building, and culture. Since 2011, HAF has Consultancy Status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

About This Cause

HAF implements a participatory approach in support of integrated community-centered initiatives that local beneficiaries determine and manage. HAF promotes the following types of initiatives: - Sustainable agriculture-Fruit tree and wild plant nurseries, efficient irrigation infrastructure, organic certification, technical training, and commercialization; - Water-Clean drinking water, solar-powered water access, and waste management; - Climate Action-monitoring, validating and selling credits for sequestered carbon - Empowerment (women, youth, indigenous groups)-legal aid and interactive workshops for self-discovery, human and civil rights, psychosocial recovery, leadership, and entrepreneurship; - Education-School infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and adult and pre-school literacy; - Capacity-building-Participatory planning, job readiness, and managerial training (organizational and environmental); and - Culture-Preservation of traditions, heritage, and multicultural history and customs (religious, ethnic, social, and linguistic) toward peaceful coexistence.
