About This Cause
YouthWorks is a nonprofit, community-based organization that creates opportunities for youth to become engaged and valued members of their communities. Through our programs—counseling, life skills, education, and paid job training and local placement—we inspire and enggage youth to realize their full potential. Our programs build futures with young people learning and working in Environmental Restoration, low-income Housing Construction, Culinary Arts Training and local food distribution work crews, Wildland Fire Mitigation training, Multi-Family Home Energy Efficiency Retrofit operations, Agricultural Production Training and Greenhouse Management, and training in Home Health Care. Our training tracks are specifically aligned to meet local labor market indicators in order to align young people with immediate job placements in the local economy. Since 2001, YouthWorks has served thousands of youth while expanding youth development opportunities that include youth advocacy, high-impact interventions such as housing assistance, transportation, resources for food, emergency assistance, alternative education, and employment connections for young people. Our Track Record YouthWorks prides itself on never giving up on the youth who seek our help. We are dedicated and committed to investing in each and every young person who steps up to gain skills and education to meet their futures head-on. At YouthWorks, approximately 1200 young people come through our doors each year seeking assistance to overcome obstacles and work toward stability and success. Many are in a state of crisis—with personal, family, or legal issues, housing needs, food assistance, and the need for positive guidance and mentoring. YouthWorks intervenes to help these young people cope with immediate issues while creating tangible pathways and opportunities for young people to aspire while designing their futures. The long-term success of YouthWorks programming is due to dedicated staff, motivated youth and the ability to shift gears to meet immediate needs. Over the years, many people have worked to make YouthWorks’ programs exceptional by providing meaningful interpersonal experiences and relationships. However, no staff would have been this successful if not for the drive and determination of the organization’s clients. The youth who come through the doors are overcoming major personal challenges, and it is their efforts that really make the programs successful. Finally, YouthWorks operates on a model that allows youth to shift gears, test-drive career tracks, and adapt when needs change or emergency needs arise. Of the 1200 young people we serve each year, more than 300 fully engage with us over the course of the year, taking advantage of our full suite of education, job training, and job placement services. Over the past five years, of the approximately 300 young people per year who participated fully in our programs: • 93% achieved certification in at least one area, such as GED, ServSafe- Safe Food Handler Certification, Kitchen Manger Certification, National Restaurant Association Restaurant Ready Certification, National Work Readiness Credential, Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Credential, Personal Care Assistant Certification, and CPR/First Aid. • 84% gained a minimum of two grade levels over the course of six to nine months in reading, language, or mathematics. • 79% started jobs or began classes in either a community college or a four-year institution. • 83% of those who started a job or college classes were still employed or in college nine to twelve month later. Ready for the Future Youth walk through our doors every year ready to learn, to create a future in Northern Mexico, and to give back to their community. YouthWorks delivers graduates ready for college, ready for an apprenticeship, or ready for that first job on a real career path.
