FUSION Theatre Company incites, celebrates, and inspires community through storytelling.
About This Cause
FUSION is the only professional theatre in New Mexico, the longest-lived professional theatre company in New Mexico’s history, and a 20-year tenant in Downtown Albuquerque. FUSION believes an arts organization must look beyond the single project or season to its role as a civic instigator in the realm of economic growth, sustainability of the arts and education, partnership with non-profit and local/state businesses, and employing the organization as a civic meeting place that incites new works, discussion, and creative exchange. In 2001 FUSION moved into a derelict former fruit and vegetable warehouse that had been vacant for 20 years. Through the rehabilitation of this 1910 property predating NM by two years, FUSION became a leader in Downtown revitalization, purchasing the property in August of 2016. Community partnerships have since welcomed 41,000 patrons, with realized collaboration and fiscal sponsorship of six other arts organizations. In 2011, The American Theatre Wing, founder of the Tony Awards, named FUSION “One of the Ten Most Promising, Emerging Regional Theatres in the U.S.” Indeed, 2018 saw the publication of American Theatre Wing, an Oral History: 100 Years, 100 Voices, 100 Million Miracles. Per Amazon: Celebrating the 100 years of the American Theatre Wing, this book is a fascinating cornucopia of untold lore … as prismatic and unexpected as the theater itself. It is a great honor that FUSION was selected as one of the 100 voices and appears in the book twice, illustrating its literal impact on the theatrical landscape of NM and beyond.
