About This Cause
At the Women Veterans Interactive Foundation (WVIF), we don’t just advocate for Women Veterans—we stand in the gap, break barriers, and build bridges to healing, opportunity, and sisterhood. For too long, Women Veterans have been overlooked, under-supported, and left to navigate complex post-military transitions alone. WVIF exists to change that. Founded in 2011 by Navy veteran and former homeless woman veteran Ginger Miller, WVIF has grown into a national force reaching thousands of Women Veterans annually through direct support, peer-led engagement, and transformational programming. We don’t wait for Women Veterans to come to us—we go to them. Through community outreach, virtual programming, and boots-on-the-ground support, WVIF meets Women Veterans exactly where they are. Whether they’re in crisis, transitioning out of the military, or seeking a sense of belonging years after service, our foundation is there with resources that heal, empower, and uplift. Real Support. Real Sisterhood. Real Results. WVIF’s model is peer-powered, trauma-informed, and results-driven. We know the barriers our sisters face because we’ve lived them. That’s why every program we run—whether virtual or in person—is built on listening, trust, and compassion. Here’s how we deliver: 1. Peer-to-Peer Support & Suicide Prevention: WVI Connect WVIF’s flagship peer engagement and suicide prevention initiative, WVI Connect, is designed to address the silent battles Women Veterans face every day. Through virtual wellness circles, community check-ins, group chats, and curated peer support systems, WVI Connect fosters belonging and connection before the crisis point. We create safe spaces for open dialogue around mental health, depression, PTSD, and life after service. Peer mentors are trained to recognize warning signs, provide emotional support, and connect participants to clinical and community resources. Women find not just help—but hope, and a tribe that won’t let them fall through the cracks. 2. Emergency Relief & Stabilization: Operation Safety Net Life can turn quickly—and when it does, WVIF responds without red tape. Through Operation Safety Net, Women Veterans facing food insecurity, housing instability, or sudden financial hardship receive immediate, compassionate assistance. From providing grocery gift cards and utility payments to covering hotel stays for women and their children escaping crisis, WVIF provides rapid response funding—because a woman in uniform shouldn’t have to beg for help when the uniform is gone. This program has been life-saving for hundreds of Women Veterans across Maryland, Georgia, New York, Texas, and beyond—and continues to grow with support from corporate sponsors and foundation partners. 3. Career Readiness & Economic Empowerment Transitioning from military service to civilian life often means navigating unfamiliar systems, unlearning survival mode, and reimagining your future. WVIF offers hands-on career training, coaching, and financial empowerment resources designed specifically for Women Veterans. Programs include: Resume building, mock interviews, and LinkedIn branding workshops One-on-one career coaching Scholarships for certification programs and continuing education Entrepreneurship resources through our Pink & White Empowerment Summit We ensure Women Veterans are equipped not only to find jobs—but to step into purpose-filled careers with confidence. 4. The Annual VA Benefits Claims Clinic: Over 175 Veterans Served Annually Every year, WVIF hosts a VA Benefits Claims Clinic in partnership with the Baltimore VA Regional Office. This isn’t just a helpful event—it’s a lifeline. Veterans receive on-site, one-on-one claims assistance for service-connected benefits, compensation, and pension filing. They can ask questions, receive help gathering documentation, and speak directly with VA representatives—cutting through bureaucracy and fast-tracking their access to care and benefits. In the last few years alone, this clinic has assisted over 175 veterans annually, with many leaving the event with claims submitted, expedited, or even resolved. For Women Veterans—who often delay or avoid filing due to stigma or confusion—this clinic is a breakthrough. 5. Empowerment Through Connection: WVINatCon and Beyond Our signature event, the Women Veterans Interactive National Conference (WVINatCon), is not just a gathering—it’s a national movement. Held annually in the Washington, D.C. metro area, WVINatCon draws hundreds of Women Veterans from across the country. It’s a multi-day experience featuring: Workshops on mental health, financial literacy, workforce development, and wellness Keynote speeches from top leaders in government, military, and business Benefits claims assistance, peer engagement circles, and sisterhood dinners Leadership development, entrepreneurship resources, and a Veteran Resource Fair And it doesn’t stop there. The Pink & White Empowerment Summit—WVIF’s high-energy, high-impact experience focused on wellness and entrepreneurship—brings another layer of engagement to Women Veterans looking to heal and grow from the inside out. These events are where Women Veterans reclaim their voice, rediscover their power, and renew their purpose. 6. Holistic Wellness, Health Equity, and Mental Health Advocacy WVIF programs center the whole woman—not just her rank or resume. We advocate for equitable health care access, trauma-informed services, and culturally competent care that reflects the lived realities of Women Veterans. With support from partners like CareFirst, Giant Food, and local health coalitions, we’re leading health and wellness campaigns that include: Distribution of Healthy Sheroes Nutrition Bags with fresh food and hygiene items Wellness workshops on stress reduction, healthy eating, and self-care Referrals to women-centered clinical services We are working to bridge the gap between clinical systems and community care, ensuring Women Veterans don’t fall through the cracks simply because their stories look different. 7. Community Engagement That Matters We don’t just speak for Women Veterans—we engage them. WVIF has chapters and members across Maryland, Georgia, New York, and Texas, and our outreach continues to expand. We build sustainable community networks by training women as WVI Chapter Interest Group Leaders, empowering them to mobilize resources, advocate locally, and support their peers through certified leadership training. Through digital meetups, volunteerism, wellness events, and storytelling campaigns, WVIF creates consistent engagement opportunities that inspire connection and build trust. We say it often because it’s true: you don’t age out of sisterhood—and you don’t walk alone with WVIF. 8. Recognition, Respect, and Results WVIF has been recognized as a Top-Rated Nonprofit by GreatNonprofits and featured in Women We Admire for our impact, innovation, and leadership. We have served over 8,000 Women Veterans, awarded thousands in scholarships and emergency grants, and helped countless women secure their benefits, find community, and regain their voice. Every workshop we host, every grant we give, every sister we reach—it’s all rooted in one mission: To ensure that Women Veterans are not only supported—but seen, celebrated, and unstoppable. We don’t do this work for applause. We do it because it’s necessary. Because every Woman Veteran deserves more than a thank you. She deserves opportunity. She deserves dignity.
