Mission Statement

Mighty Community Advocacy was founded for youth who are in need of advocacy in our country's current oppressive systems such as hospitals, courts, and educational institutions. We believe that all of our youth deserve body autonomy, trauma-informed care, agency over their own cases, access to culturally appropriate healing arts, and a thoughtful supportive reentry to a supportive peer community. It is our mission to support the healing and stability of individuals as they work to rebuild their empowerment, their communities, and create healthy healing chosen families. We seek to realize a world where systems of oppression are dismantled, equity is at the root of how we care. We believe pathways to trauma-informed care and support should be easily accessible to our community and more importantly the next generation. True pathways to healing include accessible and sustainable healing arts that has been culturally curated for youth in trauma.

About This Cause

We work to bridge these gaps by offering comprehensive, culturally appropriate care that addresses the root causes of these disparities. System navigation barriers disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC). There are scaffolding obstacles to stable independent living for high-need families—particularly, to parents working towards reunification, and to survivors working to identify resources and reporting avenues, navigating the intricacies of supportive service paperwork can be extremely complicated. Often, high-need families, especially those with less knowledge of these systems face further difficulty when attempting to access referral and human services. Cumulated with the systemic barriers and generational trauma, our communities need more support than is currently provided. Our Values At Mighty Community Advocacy, we uphold foundational beliefs that prioritize the protection of marginalized individuals from systems of oppression and abuse. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of status, has access to healing systems. We acknowledge the lack of intersectionality, anti-racism, and community care in current support, justice, education, and health systems, and we strive to rectify these gaps. Our commitment includes protecting Black and Indigenous people from systemic violence and providing survivor-centered care, anti-racist programming, and resource equity. We believe that equity fosters community growth, and our team comprises individuals directly impacted by the systems we seek to change. We view communities as ecosystems where everyone’s strengths contribute to collective thriving, and we advocate for the inclusion of Black and BIPOC LGBTQ+ individuals in healing systems. Our ultimate goal is to ensure equity and accessibility for all community members, especially Black trans women. Organization History & Leadership Mighty Community Advocacy is a community solution brought to life by Nishea Trinidad. Nishea is a survivor of multiple layers of childhood abuse. While healing she made it a point to understand not only her trauma but trauma at large. Looking to understand who has trauma, what does it entail, and how does someone survive trauma. She began survivorship advocacy, partnering with Bay Area nonprofits, and became a certified sexual assault and domestic violence response specialist. After hundreds of volunteer hours, ranging from sitting with dozens of survivors to navigating systems and analyzing the supports and services available. She realized that there was an extreme gap in her community. Over the past decade, Nishea has become fully versed in crisis support, ensuring that survivors guide their individual path to healing. After moving to Fresno, CA with her daughter, those made the decision to become a foster family, seeking to support children with backgrounds similar to her own. She also began to develop unparalleled relationships with the parents, understanding their struggles on multiple levels. Due to her extensive understanding of systems from her corporate background, she began to advocate for these parents. Leveraging her personal network, she began to connect families, in particular women, with safe housing, childcare, and employment. In addition to Nishea’s first-hand understanding of the community, survivor advocacy and support experience, and foster system knowledge, Nishea also brings professional experience in tech companies, such as Cingular, AT&T and Google. Nishea looked to create community-centric solutions to the deficits she was facing, and in 2017, Mighty Community Advocacy was formed and was officially incorporated as a 501c3 in the Summer of 2020. Since 2020, Mighty Community Advocacy has operated a blend of bio-parent case support, domestic violence process and procedures research and support, as well as advocacy for parents and children. Blending her professional knowledge with personal commitment, Nishea leads the day-to-day operations. She is supported by a cohort of local leaders committed to the growth and sustainability of Mighty Community Advocacy. In 2022 Mighty became a doula group offering doula services that are reimbursed by Medicaid/medi-cal. Currently Mighty has three certified doulas on full-time staff and two contracted doulas for back up support. Mighty ensures we support community members with wrap around services while helping advocate self agency against the systems.
