About This Cause
Organizational Overview Humanity for Peace (HFP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Renton, Washington. Our mission is to increase vulnerable populations’ access to basic needs and empower all towards justice, peace, and freedom. The organization was founded in 2017 by Dr. Francis Gadigbe out of a determination to help people affected by the conflict taking place in the Central African Republic (CAR) and other parts of West Africa. HFP's primary activities include raising philanthropic and in-kind resources to send to these communities. The organization is led by Dr. Gadigbe, who manages a small team of administrators and contractors in the United States, as well as administrative support and partnerships on the ground in the conflict zone. A Distinct Need Since gaining independence in 1960, CAR has experienced decades of violence and instability. In recent years, ethnic strife has resulted in the severe deterioration of the country’s security infrastructure and heightened ethnic tensions. According to the United Nations (UN), thousands have been killed, nearly one million have been displaced from their homes, and 2.2 million people need humanitarian aid. Violence and lawlessness in the CAR have worsened existing discriminatory cultural and social structures for women and girls. Women and girls are most vulnerable to sexual and gender-based violence while placed in internally displaced persons' camps where armed groups move among them freely. In addition to significant security issues, women and girls are less likely to receive an education and pursue economic opportunities. This is due to their responsibilities to stay home and provide care and sustenance for their families. Women who escape oppression and obtain schooling are often profoundly affected by the traumatic experiences they endured. Those displaced urgently need protection and shelter, as well as access to water, food, supplies, and healthcare. Beyond needing life’s most basic needs, people in these communities also need access to education and economic opportunity to overcome their impoverished situation. While the UN and some non-government organizations (NGOs) deliver macro-level assistance such as peacekeeping, few organizations provide humanitarian relief on the ground level. Adequate distributions of items such as potable water, food, and hygiene items are seldomly offered, let alone educational and economic development programs for women and girls. To reduce pain and suffering and ensure basic needs are met in CAR and West Africa, HFP seeks to bring essential resources to families, women, and girls displaced by ethnic conflict. Our goal is to raise $50,000 in philanthropic support by January 2021 to provide much-needed resources to refugees and families experiencing homelessness and increase access to education, literacy programs, and vocational training centers for women and girls to be able to overcome conflict and poverty. To that end, our objectives are to establish relationships with donors, corporations, and foundations in the United States, solicit donors by December 31, 2020, and raise awareness of the issues facing CAR and West Africa through strategic outreach and community engagement. Simultaneously, we will work with our partners in the CAR, specifically Bossangoa, to develop a council of on-the-ground humanitarian organizations and leaders to create distribution implementation and evaluation plans for our work. HFP has already garnered support from several corporations and organizations. These partnerships will allow HFP to purchase essential supplies, materials, and equipment for educational programs in Bassangoa- CAR at a discounted price. To take advantage of these opportunities and cover the costs of developing infrastructure to deliver potable water, HFP must raise funds first. Considering the need is urgent, HFP partners are poised to meet and distribute resources as soon as they are available. Request Given your interest in helping people, supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged populations, helping women and girls, etc., HFP kind requests $50,000.00 from the organization to support funding for potable water infrastructure, educational supplies, and materials for women and girls, etc. In recognition of your gift, HFP will acknowledge your support on our website and impact materials, as well as in publications in the CAR or other preferences of your choosing. Investment Impact With your organization’s generosity, you are helping to ensure life’s most basic needs for families, women, and girls in the CAR and other parts of Ghana are met and that they have resources to overcome the dangerous effects of conflict. Above this, your support will enable and empower a severely disadvantaged and vulnerable population to change their life trajectory through educational attainment and economic prosperity. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs states that when a person’s most basic physiological and safety needs are met, only then are they able to feel love, belonging, positive self-esteem, and eventually the ability to achieve their full potential. Together, we can work to ensure Africans achieve their full potential, and in the process affirm a society in which there is justice, peace, and freedom for all of humanity.
