Mission Statement
North Pole Studio supports careers in the arts, and exists to increase opportunities for artists with autism and intellectual / developmental disabilities to thrive as active members of the arts community. We foster self-determination and facilitate meaningful connections through total engagement in the arts.
About This Cause
North Pole Studio exists to amplify the voices of disabled artists and combat the access barriers that prevent this underserved population from equitably accessing opportunities in the arts. We serve artists with autism and I/DD who are 16 years and older through programs that are grounded in access to opportunity, artist representation, and community engagement. We specialize in supporting individuals with autism, and meet the needs of artists with complex communication, behavioral, and physical needs through highly individualized programming. We are located in NW Marine Artworks, Portland's largest collaborative of professional artists studios. In this space, North Pole Studio artists are fully integrated into the professional arts community. We provide a safe community space and a supported professional studio program for both emerging and established artists with autism and I/DD to connect and create. In the studio, artists access the space, materials, and support needed to produce, exhibit, and sell their work. Additionally, we address the services gap experienced by high-risk transition-aged youth by providing classes and workshops for career-oriented emerging artists who are 16 years and older. Through client-driven programs and advocacy, we ensure that this underserved and underrepresented population of artists thrive as engaged, visible, and thriving contributors to the local and national contemporary art community.
