Mission Statement

To transform healthcare provision in Ghana through collaborative education, cutting-edge research, and patient-centered care. Our goal is to ensure that all people have access to what we believe to be a fundamental right - healthcare

About This Cause

Access to primary health care services remains a global health problem, particularly in developing countries like Ghana and others in Sub-saharan Africa. Over 53% of Ghana’s health needs are not met by the current healthcare services due to factors such as poverty as well as inadequate access to physicians and healthcare facilities. Although 13.3 million people representing 42% of Ghanaians, live in rural areas, less than 1.9% of them have access to healthcare services. Most of the healthcare facilities are in urban areas leaving several millions of people in rural areas without primary healthcare. In Ghana, about 30% of the population (mainly the rural population) must travel long distances to access healthcare services. This is what OKB Hope Foundation is working hard to change. OKB Foundation has developed a multifaceted solution by utilizing a mobile clinic set up in a van equipped with medical supplies and equipment that goes to the underserved and remote areas in Ghana to provide medical services for the people at little or no cost. With the lack of physical healthcare facilities and physicians in the majority of rural and some urban areas, our approach seeks to: Ameliorate the issue of accessibility by bringing healthcare to people’s doorsteps from one community to another Staffing the mobile medical vans with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, optometrists, lab technologists, nurses, and other relevant healthcare providers to provide more comprehensive screening and treatment Overcome the financial constraints and poverty by offering subsidized or no-cost basic healthcare Provide health education to patients and utilize innovative technology such as telehealth, short message service (SMS), and others to supplement education and healthcare Provide culturally and religiously sensitive care by hiring diverse healthcare personnel and training native community members to provide care for their communities This approach to mitigating the deficiencies of the current healthcare system in Ghana is adaptable to several other healthcare systems in sub-Saharan Africa and many other See how we do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4GrhonM_1k
