Mission Statement
OpenSats was created to support contributors to Bitcoin and other, related, free and open source (FOSS) projects.
About This Cause
OpenSats was created to promote and support a sustainable ecosystem of contributors to free and open source software for the public good, specifically related to Bitcoin Core. Free and open source software and projects are maintained by the public, often with no compensation. This typically leads to brain drain, where maintainers of public projects often find better (financial) incentives to contribute elsewhere, usually to private companies or projects. OpenSats aims to fund these open source contributors and help solve this free rider problem that exists in the free and open source software space. We know that it's often hard to pick specific developers or projects to support in the space, so for those who don't exactly know how or where to spend funds to support Bitcoin, we've assembled a board of unbiased, unpaid subject matter experts to allocate funds to deserving projects in the Bitcoin space. For those that have specific projects in mind, you can always donate to those projects directly.
