Mission Statement
Serving People with a Mission seeks to provide people from all walks of life with the tools to become servant leaders in their communities; and for these same leaders to go into their communities and give back through service. SPM believes that walking hand-n-hand for and with others will truly contribute to the development of our future servant leaders.
About This Cause
Serving People with a Mission (SPM) is a youth-led, non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois, specializing in youth development education, environmental justice, and community service. SPM’s Hand-n-Hand Leadership Program is the organization’s unprecedented, holistic form of leadership, emphasizing college/job readiness and workforce development. This initiative has proven effective in several institutions, including Farragut Career Academy, New Life Centers, Rauner College Prep, Grow Greater Englewood, and Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago. Now, SPM aims for additional program iterations and seeks financial backing to expand the reach of its Hand-n-Hand Leadership Program to uplift more of Chicago’s underserved teenage youth. The Hand-n-Hand Leadership Program takes a holistic approach to leadership development, focusing on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of the individual. Through SPM’s interactive workshops, students gain essential life skills that support them throughout their high school and professional careers, along with any other personal endeavors. Furthermore, these workshops educate participants on how to be resources to others through charitable volunteering, improving their overall well-being. For instance, participants engage in a mental health and physical wellness workshop that emphasizes the importance of self-care and improvement in all aspects of their lives. In addition to the Hand-n-Hand Leadership Program, Serving People with a Mission promotes community service and development through its Giving People Donations Drive. Giving People redistributes essential living resources such as food, clothing, and hygienic products to underserved community members in need. SPM accomplishes this goal through resource fairs and communal pick-ups and drop-offs, directly interacting with community members. The donations drive has significantly impacted the fight against fast fashion, thus contributing to combating the climate crisis. The donations drive has become an additional, accessible resource for the Hand-n-Hand participants, allowing students to select professional clothing donated to SPM for their professional development.
