Mission Statement

Women in Neuroscience is building a diverse community of leaders in neuroscience and neurology, through paid internships, scholarships and mentorship. Talent isn't gendered; opportunity shouldn’t be.

About This Cause

Neurological disorders do not discriminate between gender or race; they can affect anyone. Diversity in practitioners, researchers, and leaders accelerates breakthroughs and improves health outcomes for all populations. Yet women leave the neuroscience field at a greater rate than men, and those who remain are less represented in research, at leadership levels, and in tenured professorships. Women in Neuroscience (WiN) partners with the University of Texas at Austin Department of Neuroscience, the Dell Medical School Department of Neurology, and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to empower a diverse community of female students to pursue leadership careers through clinical lab experiences, educational opportunities, and mentorship. With neurological disorders on the rise and increasingly recognized as major causes of death and disability worldwide, the need for representative diversity in the fields of neuroscience and neurology is even more critical.
