Mission Statement

Our mission is to save the most vulnerable animals and enrich the lives of pets and people.

About This Cause

For over 60 years, the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has been committed to serving both the pets and people of our community. Throughout the years, a commitment to thinking differently about animal welfare has led to countless first-of-their-kind programs, services, education and communication techniques that have been emulated by organizations all over the world. The most rapid change and growth AHS has ever experienced, though, has occurred in just the past four years, and can best be characterized by a paradigm shift: AHS once served what was believed to be an endless flow of animals. AHS’ programs and initiatives are transforming Maricopa County, once home to the “second worst pet overpopulation crisis in the United States,” into ground zero for the most innovative work with homeless animals and with pet owners in need in the nation. We’re dramatically decreasing intake and euthanasia across the Valley, redefining shelter treatment standards and providing critical resources to keep more pets in loving homes.
