Mission Statement
Take Charge America (TCA) is a 501(c) 3, non-profit financial counseling and education organization. Since 1987, Phoenix-based Take Charge America (TCA), has helped those in our local community and people nationwide, to manage their finances. We provide people with options to pay off credit card debt, repay student loans and manage mortgage payments. We also offer free education and resources to help individuals, families, and local communities to improve financial literacy. Take Charge America Mission: Take Charge America provides financial education and services to improve the lives of individuals and families. Take Charge America Vision: Take Charge America will be an essential lifelong resource for those seeking education, guidance, options and solutions for improving their financial health. About This Cause
Take Charge America is a financial counseling and education organization that assists people around the country who are struggling financially. For more than 30 years, we have helped over 1.6 million people nationwide manage their personal finances and pay off more than $6 billion in debt. Here is a description of each of our service lines: Credit Counseling- Every consumer contacting TCA is offered, without cost, an initial full financial counseling and budgeting session along with financial education. This session determines a course of action that matches that consumerâs needs, while instilling hope and confidence there is a solution to their financial distress. In 2017, we have provided over 9,000 credit counseling sessions nationwide; 423 of them have been to Arizona residents. Debt Management- Clients that achieve a balanced budget during a credit counseling session may select to go on a Debt Management Program. This program is designed to help consumers repay their debt in a 3-5 year timeframe, saving them both time and interest. We are currently helping over 9,000 clients repay their debt on a DMP program; over 540 of these clients are Arizona residents. Bankruptcy Counseling- Take Charge America is an Executive Office for United States Trustees (EOUST) approved bankruptcy counseling agency and we offer both of the courses that are required for everyone that files and completes a Bankruptcy case. Student Loan Counseling- Take Charge Americaâs specially trained student loan counselors can help a consumer identify the right solution for paying off their student loans and guide them through numerous repayment options, step-by-step. We have helped over 40 Arizona clients in 2017. Housing Counseling- Our counselors can provide Arizona residents with Pre-purchase Home Buyer Counseling/Education and Foreclosure Prevention Counseling. They can also provide Reverse Mortgage Counseling on a nation-wide basis. Our housing counselors have provided 918 Foreclosure, HECM Reverse Mortgage and Pre-purchase Home Buyer sessions to clients so far this year. Education Outreach- Take Charge America is focused on providing in-person financial education workshops, presentations, tools and resources to local communities and groups, lowâ and moderateâincome individuals, at-risk youth and financially vulnerable consumers, as well as organizations and businesses. In 2016, our Community Outreach Education program provided over 275 free financial presentations to 4,736 people in the Phoenix and Tucson area. More than 50% of these presentations were for low to moderate income individuals and families. As part of our mission, Take Charge America is focused on providing in-person financial education workshops, presentations, tools and resources to our local communities and groups. These groups include lowâ and moderateâincome individuals, at-risk youth and financially vulnerable consumers, as well as organizations, other non-profits and businesses. Our Community Outreach Education program provides free financial presentations to many organizations in the Phoenix and Tucson area. We have provided presentations to senior centers, schools, employers, public libraries and several other non-profit organizations in the valley such as UMOM, Catholic Charities, Jewish Family and Childrenâs Services, Arizonans for Children, Care 1st and Fresh Start and YWCA. We have partnered with various other non-profit agencies in Phoenix on a variety of projects intended to help our community members. Currently, we are partnering with the Phoenix IDA, the Arizona Community Foundation and Marisol Credit Union by providing community members with a free credit counseling session to see if they are eligible for a program that will help them pay off title loans they may have. We are also partners with The Valley of the Sun United Way in a project to help people with options to avoid predatory lenders. We strive to make an impact in both the lives of individuals and the local community and to provide a unique set of services to help financially distressed individuals and families with options and education to help them gain control over their finances. As all of our educational services are provided free of cost, we are able to help many low to moderate income level groups learn to make good financial choices to improve their futures.
