About This Cause
Founded in 1981, the international award winning Phoenix Girls Chorus has delighted audiences around Arizona and the world. This established choral organization draws girls and young women from every community in the valley who love to sing. Under the direction of Danya Tiller, Artistic Director, our top level ensemble, Cantabile, recently won first place in their choir division and was also awarded a gold diploma for their excellence in performance at the Franz Schubert International Choral Competition. Please view this award winning performance on the front page of our website www.girlschorus.org. We are a private, not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization (#86-0621710) that offers an exemplary choral music education to girls between the ages of seven and eighteen. The focus of the Phoenix Girls Chorus is to provide a nurturing environment where singers develop their music skills to the best of their ability, form lasting friendships, develop strength and independence, and create lifetime memories. Our young girls mature into outstanding young women, typically at the top of their class. Their education here broadens to a larger scope by learning life skills, team work, public speaking, poise, and confidence, creating future leaders for our community. Ms. Tiller, Mrs. Kandis Tutty, Associate Director, and their artistic staff teach vocal development, performance skills, sight singing, music theory, foreign language diction, and choreography. Musical repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of music including classical, sacred, folk, contemporary choral literature, Broadway pieces and foreign language selections. Singers perform in at least two to four major concerts each year as well as public and community appearances including city events, retirement homes, and hospitals. Each year many high school level singers successfully audition for and perform in the Arizona Music Educators Regional and All-State Competitions. Singers dedicate up to ten or more seasons in the chorus programs and alumni often return to sing with the Chorus. Locally, the Chorus has performed for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the AZ House of Representatives, City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, former Governor Janet Napolitano, Academy Award winner Goldie Hawn and has made numerous radio and television appearances. In 2014, Cantabile was selected to perform Sunday Mass at the Vatican in Rome, Italy and was invited to be the choir of choice with the internationally acclaimed “The Tenors” at Mesa Center of the Arts during their world tour. In addition, upper level choirs joined the Phoenix Symphony for five holiday performances. They have taken part in prestigious choral festivals throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, France, England, Wales, Italy, and the Czech Republic., as well as winning the gold diploma in 2012 in Vienna, Austria. We have much to celebrate in 2016 including a premiere performance of the newest edition of Antionio Vivaldi’s well-loved Gloria RV 589 both in Arizona and again in New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall this June. Then, we will be celebrating our 35th season as Arizona’s premier chorus for young women. Mission Statement To cultivate, inspire, and empower young women to find their voice through world-class music education and performance. Vision Our graduates are young women who love the arts, value education, and possess global awareness to transform their world. Our Goal To empower young women through leadership, community service and music.
