Mission Statement
Sunnyside Foundation advances an intergenerational culture of learning by investing in projects rooted in courage, community, equity and imagination in Tucson's southside. We envision a community where every southside family has the capacity to cultivate their own learning opportunities throughout their lifetime. We focus on enriching our community by making resources year round that can bring knowledge, opportunities, and insight to those who volunteer, donate, or receive any type of assistance.
About This Cause
The Sunnyside Foundation, Inc. serves a demographic of over 17,000 students, 89% of who qualify for federally subsidized breakfast and lunch programs. The district is located on the Southwest and Southeast side of Tucson running along Valencia Road from the Tohono O'odham Nation and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe to Vail, Arizona. The Sunnyside Foundation supports two large grant programs: Excellence in Education Grant Program held annually in the Fall with curriculum focus on three targeted areas: Fine Arts & Music, Literacy (with emphasis on Pre-K through 3 support and STEM Programs & Projects. In 2017, the Foundation funded $50K in Excellence in Education grants. Our second grant program is Back to Basics Emergency/Flexible Grant Program which funds small grants ($250.00/max.) to bring essential resources to the district that fall outside district and family budgets. Our Funding Our Future: Pathways to Success luncheon is our largest fundraiser and has increased in revenue by 8% over the last seven years with the Challenge to the Audience having doubled each year! We are constantly seeking new sources of revenue in order to expand and enrich our outreach and impact on our very deserving SUSD students!
