Mission Statement

The mission of Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona is to transform children's trauma to resilience through the arts.

About This Cause

We envision a world in which every child who has experienced the trauma of abuse, neglect, or homelessness has access to resilience-building arts programs and caring adult volunteer mentors. We value resilience, bravery, connection, creativity, strength, and innovation. We like to express our program model using the equation ART + MENTORS = RESILIENCE. Free Arts serves 8,000 children annually through partnerships with more than 40 social service child welfare agencies at over one hundred sites across Maricopa County. Free Arts employs a trauma-informed approach in all of our programs. This means that Free Arts staff, volunteer mentors, and teaching artists are trained to understand and recognize the impact of trauma and approach their interactions with children in a way that is empathetic and supportive.
