Mission Statement
The road can be foreboding for people struggling to reenter mainstream community life after years of displacement due to military service, incarceration, substance dependency and/or homelessness. Questions arise – Where do I go next? How do I get started? Where can I find guidance and support? Where can I find others that I can relate to? Since 1996, these questions, and more, have been answered for thousands of clients of Old Pueblo Community Services. Despite tremendous growth and change, OPCS remains true to the mission year after year.
About This Cause
Mission Statement When people face homelessness, Old Pueblo Community Services offers housing, counseling and support services to help them transform their lives. OPG Vision Statement We envision a future in which all have the opportunity to reside in safe affordable housing and live meaningful, self-defined, dignified lives, as part of a healthy, inclusive community. Old Pueblo Community Services offers a full Continuum of Services from Outreach to Supportive Housing. Old Pueblo adheres to Housing First principals across all levels of housing offered. Housing First means ending homelessness by providing long-term homeless individuals with dignified housing, without barriers such as pets or partners or active addictions, so they are no longer living on the streets or in shelters. People experiencing long-term homelessness have myriad vulnerabilities. They suffer from complex health and mental health disabilities that are essentially impossible to address amidst the chaos of homelessness. Housing First is ending this tragedy for our community’s most long-term homeless by placing people in housing first. It embraces the powerful belief that by removing the chaos of living on the streets or in shelters, vulnerable individuals engage in services and go on to live stable independent lives. It means that once housed, individuals can connect with health care providers and case managers, engage in support groups, establish routines, build relationships with friends and family, and move on to more independent living; decreasing their need for services over time. Old Pueblo offers the following housing options. Depending on each participants unique needs and the availability of housing in any of these programs, residents are able to enter housing at any point in the continuum. Old Pueblo Bridge Housing Reentry Recovery Communities Veteran Recovery Communities Supportive Housing Tucson Homeless Work Program OPCS welcomes men, women and families reentering the community from homelessness, incarceration, military service or combat, hospitalization, treatment, and/or detoxification – people with a strong desire to change the course of their lives. Each resident is treated with the utmost respect and dignity, and as the individual that he or she is. OPCS operates eleven recovery communities in Tucson. Working closely with multiple federal, state and community partners, we are able to offer a wholistic approach through an array of enhanced and graduated supportive services, which include: Well-furnished housing units with all the comforts of home Individualized case management Substance abuse counseling and recovery support Employability skills training and employment placement Family reunification and support Assistance with obtaining public benefits and Mentoring for those in prison reentry programs.
