Mission Statement

The Mary C Schanz Foundation, doing business as (dba) the Ironwood Pig Sanctuary, rescues pot bellied pigs in Arizona and surrounding states. We provide a loving and caring home to the almost 600 pot bellied pigs in our care. MISSION: The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is dedicated to eliminating the suffering of pot bellied pigs by promoting spaying and neutering, assisting owners and other sanctuaries, and providing a permanent home in a safe, nurturing environment for those that are abandoned, abused, neglected, or unwanted. ACCREDITATION: The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is accredited by the American Sanctuary Association. The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity and all donations are tax deductible.

About This Cause

The Mary C Schanz Foundation, dba Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is located near Tucson, AZ in a remote rural area. We have 550 pigs on 15 acres of desert land with plenty of natural and artificial shade, comfortable housing consisting of individual and community shelters, and plenty of water composed of automatic waterers, wading pools and mud wallows in all areas. The Ironwood Pig Sanctuary rescues pot bellied pigs primarily in Arizona with some coming from surrounding states. Most of these pigs will not be adopted and will live out their lives with there friends in one of our 26 fields.
