Mission Statement
MISSION: Downtown Tempe Foundation exists to curate diverse and impactful experiences that cultivate community engagement. VISION: * Downtown Tempe will be a vibrant hub of activity that offers a variety of opportunities throughout the year for all Tempe residents and visitors to enjoy. * Events and activations will generate a sense of community and tradition while fostering new and unique experiences. * Downtown Tempe experiences will change perceptions and even change possibilities as new users see potential with our urban spaces.
About This Cause
Downtown Tempe Foundation produces events and activities to further the arts and culture that are accessible to the community. We produce events that are free and open to the public in an effort to connect downtown to our neighbors, our Tempe residents and visitors. Events range from holiday programming to the bi-annual arts festival to a weekly market that provides sales opportunities for local artists and makers. The goal is to help local and regional artists gain an audience and allow our larger community to create lifelong memories with our downtown community. Downtown Tempe Foundation (DTF) is the nonprofit arm of the Downtown Tempe Authority (DTA). The two organizations have connected missions with different programs based on the funding mechanisms. DTF is funded by grants and the revenue earned through the events and programs such as: * Tempe Festival of the Arts, a biannual street art festival that showcases over 350 artists from around the country. * Fantasy of Lights parades including the Opening Night parade and the Boat Parade, which each bring 25,000 people to downtown for free family-friendly events. * Sixth Street Market, which is a weekly market that features local artists and makers. DTA is funded by property owners to increase the value of the property downtown. DTA works to keep downtown Tempe clean, safe and green. This is done through the following programs: * Safety patrol that patrols the downtown 7 days a week, has a direct connection to the police department, monitors behaviors and looks for criminal activities and is the first eyes/ears to witness most things in the downtown. * Clean team that sweeps downtown, removes garbage, picks up litter, removes graffiti, removes gum from the sidewalks. * Planting flowers and plants in the hanging baskets and tree well planters, watering and maintaining flowers 365 days a year. * Placemaking initiatives around the downtown, such as murals and other public art installations.
