Mission Statement
"Healing the scars of war...forever." Empowering our veterans to overcome the trauma of the past by focusing on the future through our experiential programs.
About This Cause
Operation Comfort was founded in 2004 to help facilitate veterans who are recovering both physically and emotionally from the scars of war. Programs include cycling, sled hockey, woodworking, yoga, aquatics, community reintegration outings and retreats, which engage and empower veterans to move past their traumatic experiences and move towards the future by reintegrating them into the community. Recognizing that the hurt, pain and loneliness veterans experience after returning home from war can last indefinitely, we continually strive to involve them in daily activities. Emails are sent out every Monday to veterans who are on our contact list, advising them of what we have going on each day of the week, where and when to meet. Program participation continues to grow because of this outreach. We also realize the importance of family participation, therefore, family members are welcome to join in as well. Our programs provide the opportunity for veterans to have a place to go and heal together. They need to know that they are not alone, that they add value to the community and that they have a place to go and to be a part of a military family again, even though they are now out of the military. Everyone who participates in our programs are veterans and they understand what their fellow veteran is going through, because they’ve been there. Healing together through adaptive sports, woodworking, community reintegration and retreats has proven to be a successful key to their recovery.
