Mission Statement
The mission of East Savannah United ("ESU") is to create the transformational change needed to achieve equitable opportunities and outcomes for the people who live in Savannah's Eastside neighborhoods. Based on the Purpose Built Communities model, we act as the "community quarterback" to align partners and resources from all sectors – education, housing, employment, health and wellness, as well as neighborhood residents – and set strategies for the overall effort based on the community’s vision.
About This Cause
The zip codes people are born in are the single biggest predictor of their life outcomes. If people are in poverty, the overwhelming odds are that they will live in poverty for the rest of their lives. Our model disrupts this cycle by transforming neighborhoods so people can reach their full potential. The Purpose Built Communities network helps struggling communities across the country implement proven and effective strategies to end concentrated poverty. Based on this nationally acclaimed initiative, ESU’s plan follows a proven model that centers on neighborhood residents and coordinates the delivery of resources required to create pathways to prosperity. ESU is a community-based organization working to develop an effective cradle-to-college education pipeline, create high quality mixed income housing, deliver workforce development, improve infrastructure, and bring social services that enhance quality of life. With these improvements, the neighborhood will become a community that is safe and economically sustainable with rising incomes and property values that can attract middles income families to its high performing schools. Community facilities and services will not only support low-income families but also tie the neighborhood together and create a sense of community.
