Mission Statement
At Wezesha Women And Youth Initiative (WWAYI), our mission is to dismantle the barriers faced by women and youth in underserved communities. By providing access to education, essential resources, and holistic support for mental and reproductive health, we empower them to lead autonomous, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Committed to gender inclusivity and sustainable development, we strive to create equitable opportunities, bridge the digital divide, and foster economic and social empowerment, especially for those facing the greatest challenges.
About This Cause
Wezesha Women And Youth Initiative (WWAYI) is a nonprofit organization in Kenya dedicated to supporting, empowering, and advocating for women and youth. Traditionally, women and girls in our communities face numerous barriers that limit their opportunities. At WWAYI, we aim to proactively and effectively address these challenges by dismantling these barriers through education, essential resources, and fostering support for mental and reproductive health. With a strong dedication to advocating for gender inclusivity, our initiatives are driven by the urgent need to promote sustainable development and empowerment for women, especially young women, and youth through our programs: Empowering Underage Mothers: Underage mothers often face significant barriers to continuing their education post pregnancy. The Elimu Program aims to address this gap by providing tailored educational opportunities that accommodate the unique needs of underage mothers. Through financial support, childcare, and specialized academic assistance, we enable underage mothers to resume their education and pursue their academic goals while balancing their responsibilities as mothers. Repro-Mental Program: Addressing the intertwined issues of mental and reproductive health, particularly among vulnerable populations in Kenya, our Repro-Mental Program aims to bolster the overall health and resilience of young people. By providing access to reproductive health information, resources, and comprehensive healthcare services, we strive to empower them to make informed decisions on mental, sexual, and reproductive health to lead healthier, autonomous, and fulfilling lives. Through the Repro-Mental Program, we create an environment where young people can thrive, equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate their mental and reproductive health with confidence and autonomy. Hygiene Products and Menstrual Health: Many girls from poor families miss 20% of school days each year due to lack of sanitary products. We strive to increase access to reproductive health products, ensuring teenage girls stay in school, transition to higher levels of learning, and enhance their academic performance. We provide hygiene products including sanitary towels, underwear, moisturizer, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and socks. Kemi-Zola program : We offer financial assistance for funeral expenses and provide therapy for families navigating the challenging journey of infant and pregnancy loss. Our aim is to provide a beacon of hope and comfort during their darkest times, offering support and solace as they navigate through grief and healing. EmpowerHer Global: Strengthening Immigrant and Refugee Women. The EmpowerHer Global program is a dynamic initiative dedicated to supporting immigrant and refugee women who face numerous challenges upon relocating to Pittsburgh. Women often migrate for various reasons, including escaping conflict or persecution, reuniting with family, fleeing gender-based violence, seeking educational opportunities, or striving for a better quality of life for themselves and their families. However, upon arrival, these women frequently encounter significant obstacles such as poverty, acculturation difficulties, limited access to education, housing instability, employment barriers, and social integration issues. Our program is designed to address these challenges head-on, providing a comprehensive range of resources, education, legal support, and economic empowerment opportunities. Coming soon, our "Tech Mtaani" program aims to empower vulnerable groups in our community by bridging the technology gap. We'll provide essential digital literacy skills, including access to computers, internet connectivity, financial literacy, and exposure. This initiative directly targets communities where access to technology is limited. "Tech Mtaani" will enhance safety and security in an increasingly digital world by equipping these vulnerable groups with the necessary skills to protect against online threats and exploitation.
