Mission Statement
YouthxYouth ("Youth by Youth", YxY) is a global youth-led community dedicated to transforming education. Through our online programs, in-person hubs, and intergenerational "allyships" between youth activists and adult allies, we seek to accelerate the process of young people influencing, designing, and transforming their learning experiences and education systems—to create a world where learning serves everyone: us, our communities and the planet.
About This Cause
Our YxY community includes over 400 education activists, 50 youth facilitators, and 11 core team members spanning 6 continents and 80 countries — with the vast majority being young people (ages 15 to 26) living, learning and working within the Global South. Learn more about us in this 3-minute video, created by our youth-led core team: https://youtu.be/3MvMzxcNIUs?si=Dlk4Vp43-tL9nmZn What makes us unique is our YxY Weavership: our capacity-building fellowship program for youth community organizers who are "weaving" local and global communities in service of education transformation. This YxY Weavership has been created in partnership with the Weaving Lab, a globally-renowned community of practice for weavers, founded by the world's leading social entrepreneurs. Through this 11-month fellowship, our youth weavers gain the tools necessary to skillfully connect people, places and projects into thriving learning communities in their local context and globally, seeding not only their own innovations but also creating fertile learning environments for other youth in to lead and seed transformative projects, supported by our diverse community of adult allies and partners. As we grow, we are becoming increasingly "glocal," bringing global knowledge and resources to catalyze local community-driven transformation. We now have 9 in-person Hubs in 6 countries across Africa (Cameroon, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Africa), where our youth weavers are connecting the youth, adults and institutions of their localities to transform education with focuses on peace-building, youth unemployment, digital safety, climate, gender, mental health, and teacher training. Now 3 years since our founding, we've grown faster than the funds we need to sustain our youth's projects and programs through 2024. Rising inflation and the multiplicity of crises hitting all too close to our young people's homes have made this changemaking work even more risky and costly, yet all the more necessary. To meet our community needs for 2024, we are on a mission to raise $50,000 by the end of January. We hope to celebrate our reaching this goal at our 4th annual YouthxYouth Learning Festival, happening January 26th-28th, 2024.
