Mission Statement
YouthxYouth ("Youth by Youth", YxY) is a global youth-led community dedicated to transforming education. Through our online programs, in-person hubs, and intergenerational "allyships" between youth activists and adult allies, we seek to accelerate the process of young people influencing, designing, and transforming their learning experiences and education systems—to create a world where learning serves everyone: us, our communities and the planet.
About This Cause
Our YxY community includes over 2000 education activists, 100 youth facilitators, and 7 core team members spanning 6 continents and 80 countries — with the vast majority being young people (ages 15 to 26) living, learning and working within the Global South. This YxY Weavership has been created in partnership with the Weaving Lab, a globally-renowned community of practice for weavers, founded by the world's leading social entrepreneurs. Through this 11-month fellowship, our youth weavers gain the tools necessary to skillfully connect people, places and projects into thriving learning communities in their local context and globally. Our programs support youth with the skills, knowledge, resources, and partners to create innovations that address the challenges related to Youth Mental Health, Gender Equity, Climate Change, Peace-building in refugee camps and areas affected conflict, Youth Unemployment, Digital Safety, Teacher Training, and more. After 5 years as a nonprofit, we are now kicking off an ambitious strategy for the next 5 years. By 2030, we seek to... - create 50 locally-driven, globally-supported hubs around the world, growing from our 9 in-person hubs currently. - develop a virtual Knowledge Garden: an online platform where youth and their allies can freely exchange knowledge, resources, and opportunities for collaboration. - expand life-affirming employment opportunities for youth by working with education institutions to validate the learning that happens beyond school walls. - involve more youth in policy-making, like in Nigeria where we have successfully passed two education policies supporting the re-entry of pregnant and married adolescent girls into schools. - influence culture through youth stories, art and creative media through our YouthxYouth Blog, co-authoring a book on Reimagining Schools, and media partners. To meet our community needs for 2025, we are on a mission to raise $20,000 by January.
