Mission Statement
Our mission is to establish an innovative supportive home model for young adults (21-35) with serious mental illness living in the schizophrenia spectrum, with an in-house recovery program with treatment supported by nutrition that follows the latest scientific research on metabolic psychiatry, together with music to create life purpose and psychosocial rehabilitation. We offer online prevention community education on Nutrition to schools, families, peers, organizations and professionals. We seek partnerships to open the first house and multiply this model throughout the US and put an end to the tremendous suffering of thousands that keep cycling through jails, hospitals and homelessness, by giving them a home that heals.
About This Cause
Our non-profit was founded by Mothers who have adult children with serious mental illness. Supportive housing is absent in the current mental health system. The Program we designed will have 24/7 staff trained in LEAP communication to create trust and friendship alongside with Peers that will support with their lived experience. Residents are same age range, same diagnosis and similar interest so that friendship is developed. The treatment is supported by evidence-based nutrition in partnership with Stanford University Metabolic Psychiatric Clinic, music jamming and concert performances provide life purpose and reduction of stigma. Exercise, life-coaching, vocational training and family/community integration. In 2023 we launched “Whole Minds in Concert”, a music concert featuring for the first-time talented musicians with serious mental illness. We have been providing Nutrition for Mental Health courses since 2018 and after the pandemic online so more people can be reached. The instructors have lived-experience: Anna (13 years as nutrition and recovery coach) and her son Alex, fully recovered, who is an organic gardener and Peer Specialist, in practice of daily self-care for 7 years through cooking and gardening.
