Mission Statement
Our mission is to spread the philosophical teachings of karma and reincarnation among the prison population in the United States. Responsibility for one's every thought, word and deed is a crucial part of prisoner rehabilitation, even extending into lives in the future.
About This Cause
Our work is publishing books on the topics of karma, reincarnation, non-violence, self-actualization, spiritual self-regeneration, wisdom in action, meditation and self-study and using the proceeds to buy these same books and send them at no charge to inmates in prisons in the U.S. We started with one inmate from Beeville, TX in 2009 who requested some of our books; our service has since spread by word of mouth and our small book lists to over 2,000 inmates in Texas, Florida and the Carolinas, sending out over 12,000 books - at no cost to the inmates - over the past 13 years. Their only job is to request the books, and perhaps to write their name on them upon receipt. The responses to these books have been remarkable in their depth of gratitude that there are people who care about their spiritual welfare and are willing to do something to bring expansive and liberating ideas to their attention. Inmates are free to choose any of the 23 books on our Book List and may order a total of 6 per year. No inmate has ever been charged a penny for these books, and Theosophy Dharma has never accepted offers of money from them. We would love to expand our work to some of the other Southern and mid-west states, but that expansion depends upon the funds we are able to raise from sources other than the books we sell on Amazon.com. Our current book sales almost cover our expenses of buying and sending our books to prisoners; with additional funds, we would be able to expand our operations to many more inmates.
