About This Cause
Ability Inclusion Services (formally Work Activity Center) enriches the lives of people with disabilities by actively providing community opportunities for independence and individual growth. The Center was founded in 1958 by a group of parents who desired educational and social opportunities for their children with disabilities. Over the years, our programs have shifted to serving adults with disabilities and providing support through our three main programs: Community Day Program is for individuals in need of a structured routine outside of the home. This program provides a variety of social, physical, recreational, and educational activities, tailoring them to each individual’s specific abilities and goals. This creates a well-rounded day for those in our program. We have created specialized programs aimed to allow every participant to have a creative outlet, access to adaptive equipment, overall healthy lifestyles, and learning opportunities that can be brought home. Community Inclusion creates opportunities for our individuals to access and take part in community activities. Participants may take part in volunteer projects through local and national organizations. The Center also organizes opportunities for clients to visit community offerings such as parks, zoos, festivals, museums, and tours. As our participants become engaged in the community, they grow as individuals and develop lasting community connections. We feel it is equally important to give the greater community opportunities to meet and interact with our individuals and build relationships with them as they gain awareness of people with disabilities. Our Residential program helps families make the transition to independent living. We encourage participation in community events, desired activities, and financial and medical management. Due to their disabilities, none of our clients drive therefore the Center provides critical transportation to our programs, medical appointments, shopping and community activities.
