Mission Statement
We operate one of Utah's busiest emergency food pantries, a free/low cost thrift store, and a variety of other programs to improve the quality of like for low income Utahns.
About This Cause
Established in 1966, Crossroads Urban Center is a nonprofit, grassroots organization that assists and organizes Utahns with low incomes, those with disabilities, and people of color to meet basic survival needs and to address essential issues affecting quality of life. We operate one of Utah's busiest emergency food pantries, a free/low cost thrift store, an emergency assistance fund to help with prescriptions, bus passes, gasoline and other needs, extensive holiday food programs, and community organizing and advocacy with low income people and their allies. In 2014, Crossroads' direct service programs touched some 36,300 families and individuals in need. Hundreds of volunteers help serve thousands of people in need through Crossroads every year. Crossroads has initiated and developed new community organizations to provide services not otherwise available in our community for almost five decades. Utahns Against Hunger, Wasatch Community Gardens, the Disabled Rights Action Committee, and The Community Co-op are some examples. Current community organizing and advocacy projects are focused on expanding and preserving affordable housing, insuring tax equity and fair lending practices for low income Utahns, maintaining an adequate and accessible safety net for the hungry and poor in Utah, expanding health care options for low income people who are uninsured, and protecting the civil rights of the homeless.
