Mission Statement
Get Folks Fishing Foundation (GFF) is a newly established non-profit with a mission to get regular people recreational fishing for better mental health and community. It is well-known that fishing helps those who have PTSD or recovering from illness, but little is being done to inform and serve everyday folks dealing with the daily stresses of work and family life.
About This Cause
Get Folks Fishing Foundation (GFF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2021, dedicated to promoting recreational fishing for better mental health and community building. With the understanding that fishing offers numerous mental health benefits, GFF aims to inform, inspire, and engage individuals who have never considered fishing as a wellness activity. Our mission is to increase the number of recreational anglers in America and bring the health benefits of fishing to a wider audience. We have already made progress by partnering with the Lunkerville TV series, participating in the ICAST trade show, and launching an After-School Fishing Program at PS86 in the Bronx, New York. Our goals for 2023 and beyond include the following: Expanding our After-School Fishing Program. Establishing regional community fishing clubs for adults. Continuing national media outreach through Lunkerville TV and its social media channels. Adding qualified members to the GFF board. Aligning with a national mental health organization. Seeking out additional corporate and private donors. Seek private and public grants. To achieve these goals, we will implement targeted strategies, including social media outreach to community leaders. We’ll seek partnerships and funding to launch and sustain our programs, as we rely on volunteers, small individual donations, loans, and our founder's network within the fishing industry. We believe that our approach to addressing mental health and social wellness through recreational fishing is both unique and accessible. With the support of our dedicated team, passionate volunteers, and generous donors, we will make a significant impact on individual lives, family relationships, and communities throughout the country.
