Mission Statement
Purple Eagle Charitable Fund (“PECF”) is linked to the Barack Obama Academy of International Studies (“Pittsburgh Obama Academy”) focused on providing after school and entrepreneurship opportunities to middle and high school students. Pittsburgh Obama Academy is an IB school serving grades 6-12 and is one of three Pittsburgh Public Schools magnets. PECF has launched an online store called Purple Eagle Market, utilizing electronic payments through ZUZ, a collaboration between PECF and ZUZLab, a Carnegie Mellon University startup. PECF will also support Pittsburgh Obama Academy students launching social ventures including advanced research programs, and a Grantwriting Team comprised of high school students.
About This Cause
PECF, a 501(c)(3) was founded in the summer of 2021 to enable the pursuit of non-profit initiatives for Obama Academy and Pittsburgh Public Schools. For the 2022-2023 school year, PECF will transition to serve both Obama Academy and, in select projects, all PPS schools. For the district, PECF will manage the federally funded (ESSER ARP) “Student Club Initiative” or “SCI.” SCI funds can support those extracurricular activities that struggle due to a lack of funding or go to strengthening those clubs already thriving. The goal is to enhance the overall education and further explore academic interests for all students within PPS. The Barack Obama Academy of International Studies is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, serving grades 6-12 as a Pittsburgh Public School {“PPS”). Obama Academy consistently achieves a graduation rate exceeding 90%, and 90% of graduating seniors attend college. The school has an 833-student enrollment which is 82% minority and 56% female. Nearly 85% of our students are deemed economically disadvantaged by the Federal Government’s Title 1 multiplier.
