Mission Statement
The Eastmorland Community Center was founded on a vision of bringing people together for life-giving work. Our mission is to create space for the collaborative life of the neighborhood. We value the arts, education, and social justice work for what it brings to the lives of the residents of Eastmorland and our school community. We strive to support groups and programs engaged in valuable life-affirming work and to be a gathering place for people to come together in community. We value bringing people into the life of the building as a whole so that we build community as we create a hub for the amazing things happening in the Eastmorland Neighborhood.
About This Cause
The Eastmorland Community Center houses a number of organizations that offer positive programing in the Eastmorland neighborhood. Building residents include Kindling Community Arts, Whole Child Parenting, MMSD Play & Learn, Ethical Trading Co, Madison Shakespeare Co, Lucid Dreaming Sketch Comedy, StageQ, and Common Grace. Other groups that regularly use the community center include High Fliers 4-H Club, Cub Scout Pack #329, Eastside Al-Anon Family Group, and Eastside Meditation Group. We offer space for groups based on what they have to offer the community without regard to their ability to pay rent. As such the majority pay little to no rent for their space usage. We strive to work a an incubator for programming. The Eastmorland Community Center also has several different types of programming that we directly develop. We have a substantial nutrition program that supports food insecure children and families in the Schenk/Whitehorse attendance area. New for 2025 will be the inclusion of a culturally relevant farm share as part of our monthly mobile pantry. Our Third Space program opens up our large group gathering space for community use on Wednesday and Thursday. Anyone is welcome to come use the space for work, study, gathering socially with neighbors etc. while taking advantage of free WiFi, air conditioning, tea and coffee. Additionally, we host regular, free community events that include annual events like Make Music Madison, Tunes on the Triangle, and a Community Thanksgiving Meal, as well as offering things like a Medicare Part D clinic, writing workshops, and community meetings.
