About This Cause

Callie’s Confidence focuses on youth living in low economic communities, youth placed in foster care or those youth in kinship placement in an effort to develop a sense of belonging and consistency. According to statistics from Ohio department of Jobs and family services, there were over 15,000 children in substitute care and almost 4,000 in kinship care in 2021. As of April of 2023, according to the Ohio State Job and family Services website, there are over 400 children in substitute care between Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana County. These statistics do not reflect all children who are residing in kinship placements that are not reported by Jobs and Family Services. "Each year, approximately 20,000 youth will age out of the foster care system when they turn 18 or 21, or when they finish high school (depending upon the state in which they live.) These children are at increased risk of poor educational outcomes, experiencing homelessness, and being unemployed" (Adopt Kids, 2023). Callie’s Confidence provides services such as, but not limited to, self-esteem groups, hands on life skill lessons, personal and professional workshops, monthly outings, and family support. Self-esteem development is imperative for adolescents to build trust and love within themselves especially those who are displaced from their home of origin or have undergone trauma. Research supports that children with high self-esteem manage their stress in a positive manner and can combat mental health including depression and anxiety. In conjunction with self esteem groups, Callie's Confidence offers special events including The "Miss Crowned in Confidence” Pageant, the biggest event for the organization. The pageant allows the participants to showcase their inner beauty, talents, and helps to improve their self-confidence. Additionally, Callie’s Confidence has provided a one week long life skill day camp throughout the summer, an 8- week long reading and writing club, a pamper party to discuss the importance of female hygiene, and more. Currently, Callie’s Confidence does not have a brick-and-mortar facility. Our organization has partnered with local churches, health and wellness centers, and utilized public libraries to accommodate programming in the past. The organization hopes to establish sustainable funding for a lifelong home; as the organization strives to build a community of support for youth and to become a legacy worthy of being passed down to the next generation.
