NC BUDGET & TAX CENTER

DURHAM, North Carolina, 27702-5374 United States

Mission Statement

As a non-profit, non-partisan organization, the NC Budget & Tax Center works to document and analyze fiscal and economic conditions in partnership with community leaders and North Carolinians with lived experience of poverty to advance systemic solutions through public policy that drive anti-racist outcomes.

About This Cause

The Budget & Tax Center works to provide research and analysis of economic and fiscal conditions to those advocating for policy changes that advance well-being, opportunity, and prosperity for all in the state. By documenting realities on the ground, identifying effective solutions, and listening to the expertise of partners and community members, we seek to support the replication, invention, and scaling-up of solutions to address poverty and advance anti-racist outcomes across a number of domains core to well-being: health, housing, income and education. The Budget & Tax Center’s work supports a broader movement of organizations, service providers, and community leaders working to connect to the existing policy process and present new ways to address our persistent inequities and racist outcomes. We build power with people of color and low-wealth communities by developing capacity-building opportunities that break down the policy process, making administrative and quantitative data more accessible, validating the qualitative and lived experience of people, and supporting action on identified priorities through inclusive community processes with models and design ideas from other places.
