Mission Statement
The Rahab Refuge Center of Texas’ mission is to provide housing at no cost to chronically homeless women who are victims of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and/or mental health illnesses. Our center provides 12 months of free housing and also includes a vast array of on-site support services to break the cycle of homelessness with focus on identifying the root cause, trauma, and the underlying mental health to aid participants in becoming independent, productive citizens. Rahab Refuge Center serves an impoverished and disenfranchised community and provides solutions to disrupt the revolving cycle of homelessness, abuse, addiction, food insecurity, and housing that disproportionately impacts blacks in the city of Dallas, TX. Our program makes a difference in the lives of black women by providing housing at no-cost, critical resources such as food and medical resources, and a total life support program to transition women from hopelessness to restored citizens.
About This Cause
Rahab Refuge Center of Texas operates as a free residential program with long-term housing and supportive services versus other organizations on the homeless continuum of care that address emergency shelter to transient residents on a nightly basis. There is a gap in housing availability to meet growing demand as short-term emergency facilities remain at capacity as recurring nightly residents continue absorbing resources without the long-term support necessary to break the cycle. The city of Dallas outlined in its 10-year plan to address the homeless crisis, transitional living with community support that addresses the root cause which often includes mental illness and substance abuse. Rahab Refuge Center provides a 9-12 month residential living program with a daily 9-6pm life transformation program that is a requirement for housing at our center. Since our program serves the chronically homeless, our residents do not work but attend our program full-time as we aid them in obtaining their necessary government documents, identification, medical treatment, and mental counseling to become stabilized and employable. Participation in a daily program is a requirement for housing, and is inclusive of an interactive daily schedule that focuses on personal wellness, spiritual wellness, independent living & life skills training, mental & behavioral health, social wellbeing & family restoration, mentoring, education & career placement and financial literacy training. Our residents have a myriad of special needs and we advocate for them through case management and by connecting them to third party resources for substance abuse support, domestic & sexual abuse couseling, and social security, food and medical benefits. Upon graduation, we assist residents with transitional support, housing assistance, job placement, and an ongoing mentorship & accountability. Through our mentorship program hosted by women business leaders and volunteers, we provide education and job placement support, job readiness and certification programs, and life skills training to support re-entry into the workforce and preparation for economically viable careers. We connect our residents to clinical resources and services to help them manage crises, build confidence, overcome emotional and physical trauma, and obtain case management and advocacy to obtain resources that are critical for restoration to family, career and society.
