Mission Statement
Mission Statement: Our aim is to promote an equitable system that ensures access to breast health, including risk reduction, screening, treatment, and long-term survival for all, regardless of the zip code of residence. We recognize the impact of long-standing racist systems disproportionately impacting Black and Brown women and their communities and we are committed to restorative efforts. Our Vision: To build strong community partnerships centered on relationships, community identified needs, trust, and respect. The goal of which is to promote the health and well-being of all women, their families and their communities, and to ensure access to equitable, affordable, comprehensive, and timely access to care.
About This Cause
This walk was started to provide needed funds for the under-resourced breast cancer community in San Francisco. This walk started after the Avon39 walks ended in San Francisco and with that departure important dollars were lost too. Nova is Avon backwards and the 12 stands for the 12 miles we walk, which represents that 12% of women who develop breast cancer. The 12-mile route, crosses San Francisco and highlights breast cancer disparities in different neighborhoods. The route takes us through the Marina, Pacific Heights, Chinatown, Civic Center, Tenderloin, The Mission and ends with a health fair in Hunters Point. Walkers will stop for lunch at the Urban Alchemy Oasis in the Tenderloin, lunch is provided to walkers and to the community. Walkers will also stop at the ZSFG Avon Breast Center before heading to the Bay View Opera House for the ending health fair. Over the last 6-years, this event has raised over $200,000.00 for the local community.
