The YMCA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, the Y is dedicated to giving people of all ages, abilities, and income levels the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity through a wide range of comprehensive programs that are aligned with Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
About This Cause
Throughout Southern Nevada, a countless number of people know the YMCA of Southern Nevada; but there is so much more to our YMCA than you might think. From exercise to education, preschool to preventive health, and volleyball to volunteerism, the YMCA does not just strengthen our bodies and minds, it strengthens our community. In fact, the YMCA is the nation’s leading charity committed to strengthening community through a wide range of programs that connect all people to their potential, purpose, and each other. Today, the need for the Y is greater than ever. That’s why we continue to develop programs and adapt to meet the changing needs of our communities. By focusing on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility, we have the opportunity to support all individuals in the attainment of a better life for themselves and a stronger community for their neighbors. Guided by our dedication to Youth Development, we empower youth to reach their full potential through programs like summer camp, swim lessons, early childhood education, teen leadership clubs, STEM programs, theater groups, voice lessons, cooking classes, youth sports and fitness programming, family events, academic interventions, and so much more. Our Healthy Living priority ignites a passion within us to improve individual and community well-being through evidence-based chronic disease management programs such as those for cancer survivors and individuals with arthritis, free meals to combat childhood hunger, state-of-the-art wellness centers, hundreds of fitness classes every month, nutrition coaching, wellness workshops, senior socialization activities, and much more. Meanwhile, the YMCA’s commitment to Social Responsibility means that we advocate on behalf of those we serve, activate community volunteerism, and invite others to join our vision of ensuring no one is turned away from critical care programs due to the inability to pay. Through grassroots advocacy work, volunteer initiatives like Togetherhood, and financial assistance provided through the Annual Campaign, we collectively create the change we want to see in our communities. 75% of YMCA members and program participants are low-to-moderate income individuals and families who rely on financial assistance from the Annual Campaign to access a myriad of critical care programs. By providing financial assistance to underserved communities and vulnerable populations, the Annual Campaign is a lifeline for our neighbors to grow out of intergenerational poverty, combat food insecurity, reclaim their health after a chronic disease diagnosis, narrow opportunity gaps caused by education inequities, and so much more. With your support, we can continue answering our community’s call for relief in a variety of high-need areas. Our community needs the YMCA; and the YMCA needs you. The Y’s Annual Campaign helps ensure that everyone - regardless of age, income, or background - has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Our programs improve community health and save lives; we develop the next generation of leaders and support achievement for all; and we give our neighbors purpose and unite our community in the common cause of creating a better world.
