Mission Statement
To create supportive homes of choice for adults with autism and similar intellectual & developmental disabilities (IDDs) that give them a sense of pride, accomplishment and dignity through providing services and housing within a natural environment.
About This Cause
COC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization started to create independent supportive homes of choice for adults with autism and similar intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). COC is designed through a model which looks to encourage choice and independence through diverse affordable living options that provides onsite services and supports to enable individuals to live as independently as possible. The community consists of supportive independent living apartments, care homes for individuals with complex needs that require 24/7 supports to help them live as independently as possible in a community environment, a therapeutic and recreational support center for residents and others in the greater community with complex needs designed to provide opportunities that can enhance their quality of life in a natural setting. The Centre will provide opportunities to participate in daily living skills, functional life skills, leisure activities, social interaction and health and wellness. The community also consists of a supportive housing hub (SHH) which will provide an array of services and programming for individuals and others with a similar diagnosis who live in the greater community, their families, caregivers, and others interested in supporting these unique individuals. COC promotes opportunity and inclusion through their community engagement opportunities including a one bedroom Try-It-Out Apartment that allows potential residents the opportunity to "Try Out" living on their own for a short period of time, a four bedroom respite unit open to nonresident adults with autism or similar intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) who are living at home with their parents or other caregivers in the greater community, and an onsite Community Pavilion where the greater community and the residents at COC can participate together in community events and gatherings. Community of Crocus is an innovative community that promotes a circle of care model through Homes at Crocus, a market rate neighborhood located within the community which provides housing opportunities for those who chose to provide natural support to the residents.
