Mission Statement

CPU Crew is a youth community service program that offers middle school aged kids a safe and structured environment during the summer to spend time with friends, participate in activities and serve their community.

About This Cause

OUR INITIATIVE The CPU Crew program initiative is to create a culture of giving. As our Crew of kids gives back to their community through volunteer service, individuals and businesses will be encouraged to support us financially – and the circle of giving will continue to benefit the entire community for years to come. OUR PURPOSE The purpose of our program is to enhance the physical and mental health of middle and high school aged kids and give them a sense of pride for their community. Many kids, especially in rural communities, are left to fend for themselves during the summer months. They are too old for daycare and too young for a summer job, and rural kids sometimes have very few people around them. The average cost of a teen summer program is between $200 and $800 per week. Our CPU Crew program provides kids (12 - 15 years old) with a structured environment, volunteer opportunities and learning projects to aid in their mental and behavioral health – for no charge. HOW WE SERVE Our program provides an equal opportunity for participants to receive the physical and mental benefits of our program, regardless of socioeconomic status. We’re serving the people of our community with tangible results, so even non-participants will see the benefits. Our program removes the barriers that would otherwise keep vulnerable, underserved, or low-income populations from participating by not asking for money and by providing this service in a convenient geographical location. Completely supported by grants, sponsors, partners, donations and volunteers – we're truly a community supported organization. PROGRAM BENEFITS Health: Community - We offer services that help people in need and beautify the community, giving everyone involved a sense of pride and belonging. Behavioral - We support teen behavioral development by offering new experiences that require both teamwork and independence. Mental - We improve the mental health of everyone involved by including positivity and generosity as part of everything we do. Experiences: Life skills - Learn about finances, marketing, cooking, work ethics and much more. Fun - Spend time with friends doing productive activities that make a difference. HOW WE'LL ACCOMPLISH THIS Planning a program that meets the unique needs of our community Utilizing strategic partners to obtain funding, donations and other support Evaluating our program to ensure continuous improvement GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Our 2022 goals and objectives will help us measure our success this year and enable us to expand our program in the coming years. Goals: Participation: Recruit and retain 20 CPU Crew participants (ages 12 - 17) Funding: Obtain 100% funding from grants, sponsors, partners and donors Partnerships: Maintain 3 strategic community partners (City Parks, Businesses, Schools) Projects: Complete 3 special community projects each summer Wakema Park Creek - Maintain a safe and beautifully landscaped place for residents to enjoy the creek at Wakema Park. Painting the town - In partnership with the Parks and Recreation department, keep the Parks properties freshly painted. Objectives: Publicity: Promote the program, projects and events on social media, city websites and local news in order to gain more corporate donors and community support for next year’s funding. Expansion: Create a program template to use for expansion in the future and generate enough support in the community to open the program to more kids in other areas. Skills: Teach skills that will help our participants live a productive life and encourage them to put these skills on a resume for future employment opportunities. Volunteer hours: Have participants add up hours of volunteer time to use for scholarships and work experience for resumes. Discuss this with them during our career day activity. Events: Plan and execute events that engage the local community, such as a city-wide scavenger hunt, shoe drive fundraiser and park recognition day.
