Mission Statement
Tharseo Place, Inc brings a dual approach to serve survivors of human trafficking. By focusing inward, Tharseo Place strives for wholistic healing for residents by investing in education, therapy, recreation and opportunities for spiritual growth. By focusing outward, Tharseo Place engages in community awareness activities, trains public servants and others to recognize signs of trafficking and speaks boldly and loudly for the silent.
About This Cause
Tharseo Place, Inc was founded as a 501(c)(3) in 2022 in unincorporated Angelina County, Texas with the mission of providing a safe, comprehensive, and holistic healing environment for survivors of domestic minor sex trafficking. Tharseo Place was created in response to the capacity crisis facing the Texas foster care system, specifically the lack of treatment beds available to provide adequate care for survivors of domestic minor sex trafficking. An estimated 79,000 individuals have been trafficked within Texas' borders. Efforts have been growing with national and state resources being dedicated to locating and rescuing girls from the chains of sex trafficking slavery, but a gap lies in what to do with the girls after they are rescued. Often, survivors are sent to regular treatment facilities that either do not have the level of care that Tharseo Place provides to its residents, or is not dedicated solely to survivors of minor sex trafficking. Currently, only two other programs in Texas provide the same level of care as Tharseo Place, with a combined total of 31 beds. An additional seven facilities in Texas with a combined capacity of 243 beds offer some level of care to minor sex trafficking survivors, but do not have programs built exclusively for survivors of domestic minor sex trafficking. Tharseo Place provides the level of care that survivors need and deserve through our residential, educational, and therapeutic services for girls ages 10-17 who have survived sex trafficking. We are unique in our development and use of the SAFE model, which prioritizes the girls' safety while they receive residential and therapeutic services. The SAFE model focuses on single occupancy bedrooms, additional personnel for a low staff ratio, frequent access to interventions, and enhanced accountability measures. Girls receive education, therapy, recreation, and opportunities for spiritual growth. We set the girls up for success with flexible, self-paced online learning and a certified teacher and tutors onsite. Therapy encompasses weekly individual and group sessions, as well as drug and substance abuse counseling and access to equine therapy. Recreation time includes water activities, arts and crafts, music, basketball, volleyball, gardening, movies, and others, as well as monthly field trips to fun and interesting places such as state parks, museums, and zoos.
