Mission Statement
Alameda Aikikai is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that wants to change the world through the study of Aikido. Our mission is to foster the harmony of the entire individual (mind, body, and emotions) through the disciplines of Aikido, zen, weapons, and Iaido. These traditional Japanese arts are a "Do" (or "Tao" in Chinese), a Way, through which one strives to reveal the true self. By bringing this true self forward, one is transformed, and so is the world. We provide a sanctuary in Alameda where individuals from all backgrounds may develop themselves through training in the above arts. We promote understanding of these traditional Japanese arts, as well as other Japanese cultural activities. Alameda Aikikai is a member of Birankai North America, an organization founded by T.K. Chiba Shihan to promote quality instruction and practice of aikido. Birankai is recognized by Hombu Dojo in Japan. Alameda Aikikai does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, or national origin.
About This Cause
Our specific purpose is to - Promote the health of the public and advance the public knowledge through the study of Aikido. We offer classes for children and adults of all ages, races, backgrounds, religions, ethnicity, gender or national origin. Aikido is a powerful system of self-defense that blends with the energy of your opponent to render their attacks harmless. Through regular practice, adults may use Aikido as a means to enhance and maintain their health and flexibility. In addition, children are taught self-discipline and the virtues of respecting themselves and others. Through the harmony and balance of circular blending movements, Aikido aims to unite the spirit and body of each practitioner. The achievement of this goal can be accomplished only through the accumulation of the experience gained through sincere daily practice.
