Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide children of color in historically excluded communities with the opportunities to reach their unlimited potential. We are a non-profit organization whose goal is to strengthen a child’s ability to succeed in life and to give them the power to inspire others. We believe in a holistic approach to developing children. Join us as we work towards creating a network of partnerships that • Connects communities and classrooms to support children by bringing together family, educators, and local organizations. • Cultivates social-emotional learning which helps children develop crucial life skills such as resilience, responsible decision making, self-awareness, and empathy. • Provides safe spaces where children can learn, grow, explore, and be curious. At Gabrielle’s Wings, we believe in the power of the butterfly effect: one small change can have a huge impact.
About This Cause
Gabrielle’s Wings was founded by Michelle Hord, Gabrielle’s mother. Gabrielle was an extraordinary seven-year-old girl, known for her kindness, generosity, and boundless energy. She gained her “angel wings” on June 6, 2017. In response, Gabrielle’s Wings has transformed their grief into a powerful mission, dedicated to extending Gabrielle’s legacy by helping children. Gabrielle’s Wings has been funding and partnering with smaller organizations with similar missions since 2017, creating visibility and support for their work. Our goal is to create sustainable and innovative programs that will enrich the lives of children of color and their communities. We are grateful to partner with organizations such as the following on a variety of projects: • Independence Mission Schools- Peace Corners • Camp Morty- Peace Corners • Young Men's/Young Women's Hebrew Association of Washington Heights and Inwood- Community Library • Uplift Literacy- ReadingPals • Ujamaa – Grace Community Development/STEM and Reading Center • Educating Children of Color- Leadership Academy • Gabrielle’s Playground- Accessible playground for all
