Mission Statement
We are on a lifelong journey to survive losing our son Max to suicide. We honor his memory and legacy in the work we now do with our charity Max Well For Life. We're partnering with foundations dedicated to serving our veterans and community, preventing suicide through advocacy, research, education and providing support and resources. Our goal is to reach and help those who struggle with their path in life along with the families and friends who have been impacted by the loss of a loved one through suicide.
About This Cause
Max Well For Life is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charity with the IRS and State of Maryland. Our charity started in July 2022 and the work we do honors my son Maxwell Ronald Tyeryar, who we lost to suicide in January 2022. Our immediate focus has been on raising donations to fund the Maxwell Ronald Tyeryar Military scholarship. This will provide charitable education through an endowed scholarship at East Carolina University, where Max graduated all while serving 6 years in the North Carolina National Guard. The scholarship recipient will be selected by East Carolina University and awarded to a student who is either an active military or a veteran, meeting other criteria and ideally from Frederick, Maryland. We also plan to host and sponsor fundraising events each year through organized walks, golf tournaments, and other programs along with supporting partner foundations including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (afsp.org). We sponsored a Maryland Out of the Darkness Walk in the Fall of 2022 and will be doing this again in September 2023 with the goal of raising donations for afsp.org. Our website, maxwellforlife.com, is an online resource that helps us tell Max’s story through words and images, provide content and music that encourage hope, healing and encouragement to ask for help, giving help and not waiting. We also provide links on our site to other suicide prevention foundations including afsp.org, Give An Hour, the Boca Recovery Center, and Brian Dawkins Impact Foundation. We have a military resource section currently linking Home Base, Platoon 22, Pulling for Veterans, and the Til Valhalla Project, where we host a bracelet in Max’s memory with all proceeds going to Til Valhalla. We are currently reviewing options to support local veteran focused programs who can provide mental health support and resources needed to transition from military service to civilian life. This needs include affordable housing, transportation, jobs, health care, child care homelessness and food security.
