Mission Statement
MISSION STATEMENT: To address the emergent, ongoing needs of the Campbells Creek community, in times of emergency and in everyday struggles. To enrich the lives of Campbells Creekers and provide: Community Action, Resources, Education, and Service to all within our area. To work with county, state, and federal agencies to secure all available assistance and resources for the citizens of the Campbells Creek area.
About This Cause
On August 15, 2022, Campbells Creek in Kanawha County, West Virginia, was hit by a pop up storm that devastated the community. Within 48 hours, a group of volunteers saw dire need and jumped into action. Campbells Creek Cares was formed in the wake of one disaster and has withstood several others to date. We address urgent need within our community. We dive head first into area emergencies and we provide every day support for our residents. We find areas of need and we find ways to fill those needs. We are currently supported only by grant funding and proceeds from an online thrift store, as we have no physical location. Volunteers work out of their homes and vehicles to tend to emergencies and needs. As we have grown within our community, we have realized that the needs have outgrown our current abilities and we are in desperate need of a community center. We have located available property and have begun working out the basic concepts required to make our dream into a reality. Just a simple building and land parcel could open up endless possibilities for this underserved and impoverished community. Simply having a meeting place for children and teens could shape their outcome and direct them into long lasting relationships and away from crime and addiction. The center could open up opportunities for economic growth and employment. The center could provide a hub for all disasters and emergency needs, including the possibility of adding a small auxiliary office for local law enforcement in the heart of our community. We would be able to provide our own local resources such as food and clothing pantries, meeting and party space, community dinners and social events, social services such as utility bill assistance and repair services, senior services such as health screenings and food programs, educational and training sessions, employment assistance programs, clubs and activities for children and teens, and so very much more! Our plan shows exactly how we can use the center to generate revenue and economic advancement within our small area. It is absolutely a win-win situation for all involved for the future of Campbells Creek. We welcome any and all input and suggestions, as well as opportunities to fund our dream and the development and improvement of our community in the Upper Kanawha Valley, an area still struggling from the shut down of coal mining industries.
