Mission Statement
Mission – Doors to Freedom is a 501C3 non-profit organization that has been established to provide a safe place for domestic minor female survivors of sex trafficking to experience a transformed life. Vision - Doors to Freedom’s desire is to lovingly support each individual as she overcomes her traumatic past and receives total restoration: body, soul, and spirit. We are committed to providing a place, free of charge, for these women to call home. Through life skills training, personal growth and continuing education, she will find new life, restored hope, and a beautiful future.
About This Cause
Doors to Freedom was organized as a 501c3 in September 2011 for the purpose of providing a safe home for survivors of sex trafficking. South Carolina is slowly becoming more aware that this horrific crime is happening in our own backyard. In December of 2012 our Governor signed into law South Carolina’s first anti-trafficking law. Doors to Freedom is continuing to bring awareness of sex trafficking to our community. To date, we have been able to work with just under 80 girls who have been rescued from this horrific crime in our State. We have been able to provide education, life skills training, and personal growth through our programs. Because of the repeated sexual trauma these girls have endured, in-depth and quality personal growth is essential. All of the survivors we have worked with suffer from depression, fear, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, and/or even self-mutilation/cutting. We are also able to help girls continue with their education. Most of the girls we have worked with test below grade level. Also, basic life skills need to be taught due to the lack of parental training. In March of 2018, Doors to Freedom opened its first home in Charleston, South Carolina area for these girls to call home. Doors to Freedom opened their second home to provide a next step for the residents in their first home who were ready to experience more independence. Doors to Freedom also relicensed their second home to include children of the residence, infancy to 6 years of age. Services Provided – Victim Advocacy Case Management Training in Life Skills Education/Vocational Training Personal Growth Transitional Care Target Population – Female domestic minor survivors of sex trafficking ages twelve through twenty-one.
