Mission: JFS helps vulnerable individuals and families in the Puget Sound region achieve well-being, health and stability. Approach: Jewish history and values guide our work; therefore, we provide effective services to people of all backgrounds and also have a responsibility to meet the particular needs of Jewish individuals and families in the region.

About This Cause

Since 1892, Jewish Family Service has been an outstretched, helping hand in our local community. Essential services are delivered with compassion and respect to offer people in our region the tools they need to build healthier, more stable lives. The life-changing services of JFS are provided by professional staff, enhanced by dedicated volunteers and supported by our broad-base of generous community donors. OLDER ADULT SERVICES Assist older adults challenged by disability, illness and/or declining health maintain independent, dignified lifestyles. This program includes comprehensive in-home assessments, case management, family consultation, advocacy, counseling, companion services and referrals. Specialized support to family caregivers and Russian-speaking older adults is provided. Social services for Holocaust survivors are supported by a grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany. COUNSELING & ADDICTION SERVICES Counseling & Addiction Services focuses on recovery and healing for people with mental health concerns, physical or social stressors, addiction, and past or current trauma. Through individual and/or group therapy, counselors help to address mental health symptoms, build skills around managing emotions and develop pathways toward resiliency. We assist members of the Jewish community, as well as people in the general community impacted by trauma, poverty and disability. Sliding-fee scale, most insurance plans accepted. COMMUNITY STABILIZATION SERVICES & POLACK FOOD BANK Community Stabilization Services (formerly Emergency Services) serves the Puget Sound region, offering our services to Jewish individuals and families with the most critical needs, and, where possible, to individuals and families in the broader community. Jewish history and values guide our work; therefore, we have a responsibility to meet the particular needs of the Jewish community while also providing services to people of all backgrounds. We assist people in the Jewish and broader communities to achieve stability and well-being by providing food, financial assistance and social support services. Our Polack Food Bank serves anyone in need of food in the Greater Seattle Area, and is open weekly for groceries, hygiene items and pet food. OUTREACH & EDUCATION A wide variety of culturally relevant educational workshops and groups that cover the lifespan of changes and challenges — all intended to strengthen individuals and families. PROJECT DVORA Domestic Violence Outreach, Response & Advocacy provides advocacy-based counseling and support to those experiencing intimate partner violence and their families, specialized classes for children and educational training for professionals and community members. REFUGEE & IMMIGRANT SERVICE CENTERS Services for refugees and immigrants from all cultures world-wide who are resettling in the Puget Sound area. Includes case management, employment services, immigration services and English as a Second Language classes. SUPPORTIVE LIVING SERVICES Supportive Living Services (previously known as the SAJD Supported Living Program) brings hope and a higher quality of life to people with cognitive disabilities. We provide skilled, compassionate, supportive living services for people with developmental disabilities, persistent mental illness and brain injuries. Services are available at an hourly rate. Limited financial assistance is available. We identify and build upon the unique strengths of each individual, and those who receive our services are treated with dignity and respect at all times. Our services are informed and guided by the values of inclusion, family and the full acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities in the larger community. VOLUNTEER SERVICES Volunteers serve seniors as Friendly Visitors; help in the Polack Food Bank; deliver groceries to home-bound individuals; make and deliver holiday gift baskets; teach ESL and mentor refugees and immigrants; enrich the lives of people with cognitive disabilities; and, support JFS through Family Volunteering, Board and committee work, and pro-bono services.
