Mission Statement

Working side by side with communities to build an equitable future for everyone.

About This Cause

United Way of King County's work is guided by our commitment to racial justice. We Invest, Partner, and Advocate with racial justice in mind. We believe that everybody benefits when we Invest in community. We guide those investments to ensure everyone has access to resources, quality education, enough to eat, and a safe place to call home. But building an equitable future for everyone has to happen together. That's why we fund and partner with over 200 great organizations in King County. In addition, we prioritize organizations that know their communities best. That's why we launched the Black Community Building Collective and the Indigenous Communities Fund to provide flexible funding for nonprofits led by Black and Indigenous leaders. And we know that we can't move the needle on a more racially just community without seeking lasting change. That's why we also work hard to advocate with nonprofit partners & the community for policy change. One of our signature wins was the passage of expanded Community Eligibility Provisions, which enabled the statewide expansion of free school meals to 92,000 additional low-income students! We can't do this work without your support, and we hope you join us on our mission by making a donation or volunteering!
