HOLY ROSARY SCHOOL Mission Statement Holy Rosary Catholic School is a primary ministry of Holy Rosary Parish in Edmonds, Washington. The mission of Holy Rosary School is to educate children to see, celebrate and live as Catholic Christians, to be responsible citizens, and to become lifelong learners. Our statement reflects parents as the primary educators and teachers as facilitators of learning, and recognizes the dignity of all members of the school community, guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ. We continue the long tradition of Catholic education to prepare future Christian leaders to live their faith daily in the home, in the parish, and in the community. About This Cause
Holy Rosary School has a strong academic program, and recognizes that learning occurs both in and out of the classroom. The co-curricular programs offered at Holy Rosary School are varied and multidimensional. Several times during the school year, students participate in curriculum based field trips. Teachers integrate technology into the curriculum to support student learning. Project based units of study are embraced throughout the grade levels. A World Language program was added in 2009 and provides Spanish instruction for all students several times a week. In addition, after school Spanish Club is offered. Classes and co-curricular programs such as Physical Education, Music, Honor Choir, String Orchestra, Band and athletic opportunities help develop the whole child. Each year the eighth grade performs a musical for the school community to enjoy. A state licensed Extended Care after school program provides a learning extension and service to parents. Holy Rosary School sets high expectations for all of the students. The Spanish curriculum is rigorous and students may test into Spanish 2 as ninth graders. Recent adoption of Math in Focus, (Singapore Math), has increased the overall rigor of Math instruction, and helped improve the school’s Math scores on the IOWA tests. 50% of students score within the top quartile in Math. In the English Language Arts section of the IOWA, 70% of students scored in the top quartile. Teachers integrate technologies into their classroom, and utilize long-range curriculum planning/mapping in order to better meet the needs of students and communicate with parents. Our dedicated teachers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their classrooms, each participating in educational professional development opportunities. This year our focus has been on math training for our staff and parents with our newly adopted “Singapore Math Program.” In addition to our core teaching staff, we utilize instructional specialists and parent volunteers to enhance classroom instruction and provide academic support to those students who need it. Academic programs such as the after-school science club, Accelerated Reader and the Speech Tournament provide additional opportunities for our students to enhance and enjoy their learning. We hold high expectations for all of our students so that they may flourish and excel through rigorous instruction. As evidenced by the student and parent surveys, students and parents appreciate the support of the teachers and principal and value the caring, family friendly atmosphere of Holy Rosary School.
