Mission Statement
The mission of Holly Ridge Center is to empower people with disabilities to reach their fullest potential. Our vision is to create an inclusive community where we learn, work, & play together. Our values are- Respect, Inclusion, and Compassion.
About This Cause
Holly Ridge Center was established in 1963 and incorporated on August 14, 1967, as a nonprofit 501(c) (3) agency in Washington State. Holly Ridge Center allies with people with developmental delays and disabilities in two primary program areas, Infant Toddler Program (ITP) Birth-to-Three Early Support Services, and Adult Employment Services (AES). The mission of Holly Ridge Center is to create opportunities to empower people with disabilities to reach their fullest potential. Our vision is to create an inclusive community where we learn, work, & play together. Our values are Respect, Inclusion, and Compassion. Holly Ridge Center's Infant Toddler Program is the only neurodevelopmental center in Kitsap and North Mason Counties. We provide relationship-focused early support services to families with children, ages birth to three, who present with one or more developmental delays or disabilities or are medically complex. Holly Ridge Center provides these critical early support services for all children who qualify, regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Early support works! Over 30% of kids who graduate from ITP need no additional specialized services. We served over 1,300 children in 2023, and now serve more than 500 families per month, up from 315 a month in 2020. Multidisciplinary services include occupational and physical therapy, hydrotherapy, speech pathology, early childhood special education, a nutritionist, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), family support services, developmental pediatrics, developmental psychology, infant and early childhood mental health services, and medical home case management. The Holly Ridge Center Feeding Group is a 12-week program for children with pediatric feeding disorders and the only group of its kind in Kitsap County. We serve families from a variety of immigration statuses and cultural backgrounds. As many as 80% of these children and families are at or below the poverty line; many are children in foster families. All children, aged birth to 3, engaged in the foster care system in Kitsap County, and engaged with Child Protective Services, are referred to us. Additionally, Kitsap is one of only five military bases where families with children in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) can homestead. We are the primary service provider for those military families seeking services for children with early support needs. Nested within ITP is our growing Autism Services. Holly Ridge Center is an Autism Center of Excellence and among the few Early Support Centers providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). As practiced at Holly Ridge Center, ABA is a play-based, child-led learning method for children diagnosed with autism. Our recently created Autism Resources Navigator position is one of a few statewide, placing us on the cutting edge of Autism support in the region. In 2023, there were 78 children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis at Holly Ridge Center. The Autism Resource Navigator offered consultation to families of 53 toddlers diagnosed with ASD last year. The Navigator was also a critical partner in developing a SMART (School & Medical Autism Review Team) Kitsap network, currently titled the Kitsap Autism Partnership. This is potentially an answer to the need to diagnose Autism at a younger age and make it more available and equitable statewide, and intends to reduce the growing wait lists, for as long as two years at the large Autism centers in Seattle and Tacoma. Autism is the nation’s fastest-growing developmental disability. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 36 children have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Their research shows that early support services can make a vital difference in improving a child’s development resulting in better outcomes. Autism services are severely underfunded and critically necessary. Autism services, including ABA, are not covered by state contracts and are only marginally covered by some insurance providers. The funding of the Autism Resources Navigator position depends entirely upon contributed revenue. The Adult Employment Services (AES) program supports competitive, integrated, person-centered employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since 1963, we have built a reputation for providing quality customer service to our job-seeking clients and the community partners who employ them. We promote empowerment, self-advocacy, and greater job retention through person-centered planning, job development, and on-site job coaching. AES is certified by the Washington State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and Developmental Disabilities Administrations (DDA) and accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Holly Ridge Center partners with School to Work, Pre-ETS (Pre-Employment Transition Services), and the Job Foundation programs for youth. Our focus ensures that every person has the right to be included as a valued, respected, and equal community member; will have the necessary support to gain access to the workplace; and is part of a diverse workforce that benefits the employee, employer, and the community. 100% of the adults we serve are low-income or below the poverty level. We are also the only supported employment agency in the County that serves community-protection clients. In 2023, AES supported 96 clients; 79% of our Department of Developmental Disabilities clients were employed, and 72% of our Department of Vocational Rehabilitation contracts were successful. Any unsuccessful contracts were closed by DVR for lack of participation by the client. 100% of all Independent Living, Job Retention, and Intensive Training contracts were successful. Job retention for all new employment in 2023 reached the 90-day mark and beyond.
