About This Cause
Founded in 1972, Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) is one of the largest arts employers in the Puget Sound region, one of the top professional ballet training institutions in the country, and one of the most highly respected ballet companies in the US, recognized among American ballet companies for its commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. PNB is proud to be a resident organization on the Seattle Center Campus, both at McCaw Hall and the Phelps Center, where PNB has resided since 1993. PNB serves over 200,000 community members each year through mainstage performances, PNB School classes, partnerships with Bellevue and Seattle Public Schools, dance education, community education and outreach programming, and tours. PNB is one of the largest arts employers in the region, employing more than 600 dancers, musicians, craftspeople, production staff, administrators, and PNB School faculty. During the COVID pandemic, PNB put artists and crews back to work by producing an all-digital season that inspired viewership from around the world, with subscribers from all 50 states and 36 countries. Our organization is sustained largely through ticket sales and PNB School tuition. 25% of our operating budget comes from contributed sources, with less than 1% from government sources. World-class cities by definition include a thriving arts and culture sector. Seattle’s arts scene, including PNB, is often touted by companies recruiting staff to the region, and is a key part of what makes our city a vibrant destination for thousands of new residents and visitors each year. Whether employing artists in our region, activating spaces on the Seattle Center campus, attracting customers to Uptown and South Lake Union, or using our platform toward creating a more equitable arts sector, PNB contributes significantly to the overall health of our community. Across the organization, PNB aspires to reflect and engage citizens in our region’s diverse communities and ensure that all paths in to PNB are welcoming and inclusive.
