Mission Statement
PAWS of Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap advocates, educates, and provides direct services to nurture the bond of companionship between pets and their people, for the health and well-being of both.
About This Cause
In 1975, three women noticed a glaring hole in animal welfare on the Kitsap peninsula. They founded Progressive Animal Welfare Society PAWS of Bainbridge Island (PAWSBINK). For nearly 50 years, our purpose has been to provide the community with programs that not only offer animal companionship through adoption but also enhance the relationship between people and their furry companions with other retention encouraging programs. PAWSBINK has two adoption facilities in the region-Kingston and Pleasant Beach on Bainbridge Island. These are centers for adoption of cat/kittens who come from situations such as family surrender, abandonment, or feral colonies. They are not only from Kitsap County but also from high kill or overpopulated shelters all over Western Washington. PAWSBINK also provides Veterinary Assistance for low income families and seniors as well as a separate spay/neuter program, an In from the Wild Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) program loaning traps to those in need. PAWSBINK’s greatest accomplishment is providing our exclusive programs to our community: SafeHarbor to house animals of families in crisis, a Cat Sanctuary for senior cats deemed unadoptable to comfortably live out their last days, A Pet Education program to help owners better understand their pet’s behavior, includes Emergency Disaster Preparedness and Dog Bite Safety, a pet food bank supplying seven local food banks and two severe weather shelters with pet food and supplies, and Pets and Loving Seniors (PALS)-a program for seniors to permanently foster senior animals which offers all veterinary and pet care. PAWSBINK’s service area covers the northern segment of the Kitsap peninsula, reaching from north Bremerton through Silverdale, Bangor Military Base, Suquamish & Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribes, Poulsbo, Hansville, Kingston, Port Gamble, and Bainbridge Island. The programs who have this boundary include Low-income Vet Assistance, Low-Income Spay/Neuter, pet food banks and PALS. These programs provide assistance to all low-income individuals (eligible as 150% of the federal definition of poverty).
